At least one of those funky SP C415s is still polishing the rails in America's heartland...
One of the SP units made it up to Washington State to become #702 on the Columbia & Cowlitz, the lumber hauling shortline in Longview, about an hour north of Portland. Here it joined sister #701, another C415 originally built for the C&C.
The two ALCOs were subsequently sold to Bob Steele, who operated the Oregon Coastline Express and later the Spirit of Oregon dinner train on the Port of tillamook Bay RR. After the Spirit of Oregon shut down, the 701 and 702 and the dinner train consist were acquired by the Mount Hood RR, which put them into service out of Hood River, Ore.
The C415s remained on the Mount Hood just a short time before their sale to the Burlington Junction Railway, a shortline in Burlington, Iowa. Both are currently on the BJRY roster and are used in regular service.
