On that thread, the OP asked what the CP/SP's station name was, and that was "Yuba Pass". In this context, "Yuba Gap" is thoroughly incorrect, regardless of what the USGS maps may or may not say. Further complicating the situation is the tendency of current UP employees to call it "Yuba Gap", but they're wrong too. ("The Gap", BTW, still refers to "Emigrant Gap").
All the puffery and chest beating on this thread about the propriety of "Yuba Gap" over "Yuba Pass" is in certain ways very reminiscent of the N-ray controversy of 100 years ago: [
en.wikipedia.org] . It's intellectually weak to be so precise and picayune about the F-unit's previous SP number and then out of the other side of the mouth be so cavalier about the proper SP station name for the location.
OTOH, Drew's pix are quite good, particularly the ones from 25-40 years ago.
