NP Signal Question

I'm pretty sure there are some list members who are familiar with the NP operations in the Seattle/Tacoma area in the 1950's, so I'm hoping one or more might be able to answer a question.

We are starting to install signals on the Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers (PSMRE) layout in the Washington State History Museum (Tacoma). No seems to know if the NP installed signals to protect turnouts off the main lines. I'm assuming a form of ABS was used (I'm very far from a signal expert). Any experts out there?
