I had spoken to a Metrolink passenger service rep on the platform at LAUS when I went there to railfan Jan. 15 and he mentioned that the Front Runner cars are on lease pending the arrival of new Metrolink bilevels.

The operational pattern seems to be a single Front Runner car on each consist that uses them, and always behind the locomotive, since none of them are cab cars. The consists I spotted at LAUS that had them were heading out on just about every one of the agency's routes.

What is also interesting is the 3-2 seating in the single-level cars, left over from their commuter days in New Jersey.
