That 3-2 seating showed up when the cars were rebuilt (around 1985/86 if I'm remembering right). When they were delivered by Pullman-Standard in 1971, they arrived with very nice 2/2 seating, that will still the somewhat upright pullover type commuter bench, was still comfortable enough to fall asleep on.
