I find the buyers with the bucks come and go. I was buying Erie Lackawanna slides up until recently (my own passion) and rarely going over $10. I almost never buy dupes either. Then someone came along and started outbidding me on every slide I bid on, even when I went up to $15 a slide, so I just stopped trying for awhile. Will go back to it eventually, I suppose.

Back when I was collecting postcards from my hometown, I got into some crazy bidding wars with people (paid over $100 for some cards... really stupid of me). Same cards now will occasionally show up and go for $20.

My point is... bidding wars will make prices get really crazy sometimes. While I don't know about $850.20, I've seen it get nuts enough for my taste.
