The runaway caboose scene was filmed on Sierra Railroad at Canyon Tank (Milepost 23). The grade flattens out here and is nearly level for about a quarter mile. Sierra Railroad installed a locomotive automatic brake valve inside the caboose which Bill Coffer operated inside, out of sight, to slow and stop the caboose. It was caboose #7.
