It appears that the 3762 had gyralites on the rear at one time, which were later removed. It seems to me that SP units often had the rear extra lights removed without any pattern or general plan. Also, units originally ordered for the T&NO were built without them, but their headlights were mounted in the normal position at the top of the hood. Even when they were rebuilt, the ex-T&NO units didn't get the lights added. In the late 1980s, SP reclassified some GP9s as switchers--the ones which had not been rebuilt, plus some poor-performing ones that had--and renumbered them as 2800s. However, that change didn't seem to have any effect on their headlight configuration. In fact, 2800s sometimes were still seen in road service; apparently, the change to switcher status only meant they would not be repaired if they failed.
