Actually, a reporter named Lance Williams appeared on last Friday's KQED Northern California news program and this issue was discussed at some length. Most notably, the fact that the bid went to an Alaskan Indian tribe whose construction company is headed by a South Carolinan CEO with a bad business track record. None of this was referenced in the GMA piece. The GMA spot did, however, make it clear that the train was the hapless brunt of all of this and would run with or without the track relocation. The Mayor wasn't slamming the train he merely said that he would rather the money be spent repairing streets than relocating the tracks etc. for flood control. The Army Corps of Engineers gets the money, not the train or the mayor. The Corps then pays their contractors who, in this case, are the Alaskan tribe.
Ahhhhhh, politics. :-)
