Westbound from Calgary to Vancouver follow HWY 1. Most of the trip the CP tracks are in close proximity to HWY 1. Between Kamloops and Vancouver the tracks follow the Thompson and Fraser River. Eastbound from Port Coquitlam to Hope follow the Lougheed HWY. At Hope the Lougheed hooks back up with HWY 1. I would avoid the Vancouver area as there is too much congestion and not too many great shots. I followed it a few years ago and expect for a zoo, though not as bad as steam in the states. Watch out for kamakazi truck drivers as they routinely drive 20-25 mph or kmph over the speed limit, especially in the canyon. Be safe.
