About That 113 Car Derailment On CSX At Glencoe, PA

It kinda makes me wonder if they released the train brakes after they had heated up, and the snow melted and then froze creating blocks of ice between the brake shoes and wheels. Something similar supposedly happened on the CP years ago around Kicking Horse Pass. The crew supposedly had descended the grade and went in a siding to meet a train. They released the brakes in snow drifts and after it melted it froze. When they left and applied the brakes there was nothing, and they went into the canyon below. So, I guess its best to apply and release the brakes periodically when stopped in deep snow.

On the other hand, maybe they just pissed their air away.
