Rail Action - 100+ Years Ago - On San Francisco's Market Street
Author: Idler Car

The site below provides a 6+ minute film, from a camera mounted on a San Francisco cable car running on Market Street, taken a few days before the great earthquake of 1906. Many of us have seen photos of the destruction of that earthquake, but few have seen what downtown San Francisco was like the week before. Besides seeing other cable cars on the next track, one can see horse cars, "regular" trolley cars, early automobiles, horse-drawn buggies and carts, as well as lots of people. The present Ferry building, one-time home of the Southern Pacific RR, is visible dead ahead.
