Mmmm, just too numerous to list I believe... I do remember the first day I took on my student trips 40 some years ago though. The conductor that got me my job was the Condr on the daylight Los Nietos (yard on the basin in Los Angeles for those who are not familiar) job. On our first move of the morning he told me to stand on the front deck of the engine while the head brakeman brought the loco out of the house and made a joint in the yard. As we were coming into a joint, the box that we coming to a joint on got BIGGER and BIGGER as we closed in on it. By the time the head brakeman made the joint I was scared silly, as I thought he was just going to run into it and keep going. But he made the joint and we stopped nice and easy. I think he kinda watched my expression coming to the joint as he kinda giggled after he made it. The rest is history. Over a 40 year career I can't count the number of times I rode and engine, caboose or cars, but they were all great (well maybe not all). I think the best rides were the ones from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles along the coast. That is the most beautiful ride one could ask for. And also working a local out of Guadalupe to Lompoc, and switching around Surs for several hours before heading into Lompoc.
