1957--1958 : "The Final Trips" : SP & WP "STEAM"

Those final STEAM trips on the SP and WP in the late fifties were some of the greatest railfan trips ever operated. Lots of rare mileage too, in some cases !!

Who were those 'regal ladies' of STEAM power that a lot of us older fans take for granted ??

Locomotives with numbers like : 2728, 4274, 2475, 1744, 4460,
4443, 2833, 2248 and that marvelous duo of 94-334 ...

Most of these locomotives were either scrapped or put someplace on
display (if they were lucky)...

Only TWO of these locomotives still operate today under STEAM ...
SP 2248 and also SP 1744 (original numbers) ...

Wouldn't it be wonderful to go back in a "time machine" and experience some of these trips first-hand ?? Sure would !!

We don't have to be 'greedy' if granted our wish... SIX (6) of
these trips would be way more than necessary to wet our appetite for "STEAM in the Fifties" ...
If you're lucky, then locomotives 2728, 2475, 1744, 4460 and 4443
followed by a great finale' of Double-headed WP 94--334 will more
than excite you to no end... HOW do you see this, you say ???

Come to "Railfan & Railroad" Magazine's Pre-WINTERAIL "Pizza Night"
on Friday, March 12th at Stockton, CA's "Scottish Rite Temple" and see for yourself what a lot of us enjoyed some "53" years ago...

ALL ABOARD !!!
