Yep, especially for a 5 year old! I'd try and find a cardboard barrel of some sort, mount it on a frame made out of 2" x 12" boards, find comething close for wheels, paint the whole thing up like Thomas and I'll bet he'll love it.

When I was a kid, I recall "flying to the moon" in an old cardboard box decorated with crayons. It was, depending on the moment, a Saturn V, the Apollo Capsule, Lunar Lander and Lunar Rover, all powered by imagination. So it doesn't have to be perfect!
