Interesting, I had wondered about that. I don't suppose you have copies of any of that material? I talked with an old-timer from La Crosse who mentioned that GN/BN cars for Colfax came from the BN connection at Connell, and 392 set them out for 391 at Seltice for the westward haul back to Connell (since UP ran the Palouse directionally on teh PV and Tekoa branches). If that was the case, the GN cars (after merger) could have just been handed back to BN rails at Garfield?

I'm just curious, what's your source of info regarding this interchange arrangement? I've "heard" the same, but the surviving waybills, etc., that I've seen have all shown a UP-GN/BN interchange at Oakesdale, rather than Garfield.
