A few weeks ago, the central Montana newspapers were all abuzz over BNSF's decision to clear several miles' worth of stored empties from its Helena-Great Falls line. Don't know if these are what you're seeing. If so, the next question is whether they're heading west for revenue use, storage, or scrapping. That latter situation is not completely out of the question, with scrap metal prices currently at record highs and several shipping lines already scrapping their older, surplus container and bulk ships.
