Very nice shots, especially the overhead of the Derby Train.

The first shot of the AVR train is intriguing because the casual viewer might not realize that the train is actually passing through the Pittsburgh Amtrak (ex-PRR) station. I remember seeing both Conrail and NS freights passing here while traveling through on the "Broadway Limited", "Three Rivers" and "Captiol Limited".

One one occasion in October 1995, a Conrail freight passing through the depot caused a hard coupling on the "Three Rivers". The train, which originated at Pittsburgh at the time, was preparing to couple on to a Viewliner sleeper and two Superliners deadheading to Altoona for the annual Railfest. These cars had been set out by the eastbound "Capitol Limited".

I was in the rear coach at the time watching the conductor controlling the backup move, and he was about to radio the engineer to make his safety stop when a passing freight blew its air horn and drowned out his transmission. The engineer missed the safety stop request and continued to back up, causing the hard coupling. There was no apparent damage, and the train got out of town without further incident.
