This day in Railroad History
April 29, 1990
The last Oregon California & Eastern Railroad log train to Bly, Oregon operated. Over the next 2 days empty equipment was moved for storage, two locomotives made the return trip to Klamath Falls, and Oregon’s last log hauling railroad fell silent. This was a railroad that earlier both the Spouthern Pacific and Great Northern had each sought to control, and the ICC settled it requiring joint purchase and operation in May 1926. An extension that ran 26.4 miles from Sprague River eastward to Bly was built in 1928, but then weather prevented regular operations from commencing until 30 April 1929. Lumber giant Weyerhaeuser took possession of the OC&E in January 1975.

This day in Railroad History
April 29, 1990
The last Oregon California & Eastern Railroad log train to Bly, Oregon operated.
