So there is no misunderstanding here, I am not a detractor of 3751 and/or the people
who have worked so hard over the years to keep her running. As built, she was a very
early design with a comparatively lower pressured boiler, 210 lbs. IIRC. This later was
bumped up to 230. She has the approximate same t.e. as her more modern cousins by virtue
of much larger cylinders, 30" by 30". While some noted steam people have made a
less than admirable comparison to the other 4-8-4 types that are operating today, it
should be noted that 3751 also serves as an example of how the development of this
wheel arrangement came about. Personally, I'm tickled that she's out again today and
yes, I have put out money to ride behind her, to the Grand Canyon & back in 2002.
