The SF MUNI, Sept. 19th, 1982
September 19th, 1982 was the last day of service on Market St. and the last day for MUNI's aged PCC fleet. I spent most of Saturday the 18th and all day Sunday the 19th shooting as much as I could. For the hair splitters, the last cars ran well after midnight so, in reality, the 20th was the last day. I have been told that at least one non-revenue run with some MUNI employees took place the following week.
I don't think even the most optomistic among us would have ever believed we would see what has become of Market St. today.
Here are four shots from that last weekend.
#1031 heading up the ramp at the Transbay Terminal
#1143 inbound J-Line private ROW
#1122 First & Mission -- This is now in San Diego to become part of their "heritage" operation. It had been one of the cars up at Tahoe.
#178 (leased from Rio Vista) and what appears to be 1108 at Judah & 48th.
