I believe, as well, that the McCloud motorcar was homebuilt.
The trucks were fabricated in the shop at the NSRM. The car is uses a Cat diesel for power. The engine drives hydraulic motors that operated the car. The flywheel on the front truck is a dummy but has it's own dedicated hydraulic motor to make it revolve when the car is moving. There are no known McKeen engines in existence so the decision was made to install a reliable, easy to operate and maintain, system of propulsion.
There are remains of another McKeen in Alaska but there are no plans to restore it to operation.
