Three rural roads in northern Washoe County not maintained due to budget reductions.
Effective immediately, three previously, county-maintained roads in the Gerlach/Vya areas of rural northern Washoe County no longer will be serviced due to budget reductions, the county announced.
The affected roads are Garrett Road (2.4 miles), Tuledad Road (3.8 miles) and Dug Way Road (2.4 miles).
The cuts were necessary to help the county balance its budget.
“It’s always hard to reduce service levels to any of our citizens regardless of where they live,” Public Works Director Dan St. John said. “Elimination of maintenance on these three roads was made after determining that it would cause the least amount of disruption for our citizens while still meeting our budget reduction targets.”
Residents in the Gerlach/Vya areas have been notified by the Washoe County Public Works Roads crews through signs and other ways. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management field offices serving that area have also been notified.
