Dunsmuir 7-3-10

I was in Dunsmuir, Ca yesterday evening and heard air-horns announcing the approach of a west bound freight train. Nothing unusual about that.

When ever I am in that town for dinner, I usually walk down to the yard to see if there's anything of interest on the old turntable, or in the yard.

West bound trains usually stop and change crews, then continue on, which was the case of this train. When the train came into sight, on the point was a Norfolk-Southern unit followed by an old Southern Pacific unit. I'm not familiar with identification of the types of locos they were, and I did not have a camera with me. But this was the first time I have ever seen a NS unit in this area. The entire consist was empty container flats.

Anyone have any idea what this may mean?
