The remaining single track segments are Mecca to west of Yuma and Wellton to west of Maricopa, AZ. When the economy rebounds and traffic regains in 2007-2008 levels, the weak spots will be Gila Bend-Maricopa and the El Paso terminal itself. The new proposed fueling/inspection/intermodal at Santa Teresa will help this problem and double tracking the first should eliminate any real weak spots in the Sunset Route.
