Coors to stop shipping by rail

The company opened its Elkton packaging plant and a small facility where high-alcohol beer sent by rail from Golden was diluted and then shipped to customers in 1987.

For each of the thousands of freight cars that will leave here each year, the company will save $735 in shipping costs.

"With modern technology, water is water. Anything in the water you don't want, it is easy to get that out and put in what you do want," Coors said.
