Wow, Drew!
Nothing like being in the right place at the right time--ditto for Steve.
"Not quite as bad as Steinheimer's shot of PA's pulling out of 16th Street, but close! Is it something about Alcos? No ... I've seen some serious plumes trailing GEs too..."
BAD? Stein's shot of the PA's storming out of Oakland 16th. Street is way up there in my personal Top Five Stein Photos. "Bad" means "GREAT" for that spectacular image!
Speaking of GE's, Amtrak Mud Missiles 201 and 189 laid down a nice plume departing Oroville this afternoon with the Feather River Express in tow. Looking forward to Drew's images of this memorable salute to the 100th anniversary of WP's first through passenger train in 1910. The real star of the day, of course, was Portola's glistening WP 2001, which led the train "down the slot" to Oroville. One never tires of a Nathan M-5 echoing through the canyon. Steve Habeck was in fine form at the controls of the venerable GP20.
What a weekend! Still glowing and it's not just the sunburn...
