Scenic Coal Route

On my list of rail fan things to do, is to get out to the Powder River basin and take in all the coal action. Out here on the Puget Sound, we get some of those trains and after looking at numerous coal train shots, I've concluded that along the Sound must be at the top of scenic coal routes.

This past Saturday shaped up to have a pretty decent sunset and my patience paid off at one of my favorite locations, the Steilacoom Ferry dock. After the "trains with little windows passed", an empty coal train showed up as the sun went down.

As I type this, the rain as begun and it leaves me wondering if that might have been the last sunset for several months.

Enjoy:
