In February 1975, I rode the SFZ and RGZ to Denver for an 8444 excursion. The SP dome ran Oakland-Denver, where it was replaced by a dome coach, Slumbercoach and flat top lounge for the Denver-Chicago leg of the trip. At one time, Amtrak had run the SP dome to Chicago, but Amtrak had only 5 ex-SP domes and that was not enough for all the SFZ consists, so at least one consist had to run with a flat top lounge.

When I rode the train in 1975, the dome was between the diner and coaches.
