Growing up in Nor Cal, I remember a day when my beloved Giants were rallying in the bottom of the 9th inning of a brutal game where all of the utility players had already been used. They decided to go with a left handed batter as a pinch hitter to swing for the #5 relief pitcher of the day. All they had was a starting pitcher on a day off. With the tieing and winning runs on 2nd and 3rd, the guy struck out on 3 pitches to end the game. (I'm now an American League fan--Mariners)
