I think you must be refering to those large "ashcan" Mars Lights on the 1442. SP had those on the early hood units, both EMD and Alco and the FM and EMD switchers. Most of the units on the NWP had them. Anyone out there ever save one or two for posterity?? Bet they posed clearance issues around shop buildings and snow sheds. They disappeared pretty fast in the early 1970's.
