I want to thank everyone who has looked at and especially those who have commented on the photos I have been posting. You have motivated me to continue with the project and process of going through, scanning, digitally processing and sharing these old photos. I really like the Alcos. We could linger in the 1800's for weeks, I have so many photos of these Alcos. Where are we going today? Well, we are wrapping up the 1800's and getting ready to advance to higher numbers. This group features the later S4s and the first of the Baldwins.
Photo 1: Southern Pacific 1955 built Alco S4 1841 in 1972, location not recorded.
Photo 2: Southern Pacific 1955 built Alco S4 1845 under Adeline Street in Oakland, CA on December 28, 1972. Note the detail differences on this late S4.
Photo 3: Southern Pacific Baldwin S10 1865 is sitting on the whisker’s at Eugene, Oregon in the summer of 1972.
Comments, corrections and more information are very appreciated.
