If you're wondering about the railroad, I don't think P&W is going to stomach another repair of the line. The last time they did it (on their own dime) they never got a single revenue freight move out of it.

All of the industry in Astoria is gone - long gone. Tongue Point simply isn't attractive for many customers, despite the efforts of the Port of Astoria, the Washington Group (a.k.a. the owner of Montana RailLink) and others. And the L&C Train was a novelty at best, not something that'll pay the bills for a 100 mile railroad. I hate to be the messenger but thanks to "revitalization" which has resulted in turning industrial areas into tourist traps, unless Astoria is willing to kick out its tourist businesses from the waterfront the only train travelling on those rails will be the tourist-oriented trolley. Astoria would rather have cruise ships rather than breakbulks to transload lumber or grain, and there's no room for an intermodal terminal in Astoria (of which would be better located in Longview with direct mainline access, but it looks like Portland is safe for now as the regional deep-draft port.)
