One thing I have never heard is where the "special spike" was struck in the Cajon Pass. I know that construction proceeded from both Waterman Jc (future Barstow) and San Bernardino, but I have never heard exactly where in the pass the rails met. The first train is said to be a passenger train from Kansas City to Los Angeles (via the SP west of Colton).
