This would have been the Long-Bell operation out of Tennant. The SP connection was called
Leaf. Their line went in an Easterly direction out toward the G.N. and may have actually crossed it, I'm not sure, but they had a lot of mainline trackage.
Roster consisted of at least 3 small Prairies, moderate sized Mikes along with a former Minarets & Western 2-8-2 that was a real giant for the woods. They also tried out a really big Mike from Washington, but after turning rails, it was judged a failure & not used. Long-Bell also transferred one of their 2-6-6-2's from Washington. I think it was the 1001 and she finished out her career at Tennant. I believe they also had a 3T Shay, the 94 that was sold to the Yreka Western & scrapped right after WW2. They also had a rotary snowplow that may have been home-built.
One of the little Prairies was sold to Gene Autry, resold & now is stored in Merril, Or. I saw her a week ago...cute little engine with a slope-backed tender.
Don't believe that a lot of fans got to this operation until they had shut down and the remaining power was sitting while waiting for the scrapper. Too bad. Tony Johnson showed me some spectacular movies of 5 engines on a train hauling logs while plowing the line of snow.
A neat operation.
