Wow! Mrs. Voss did you ever press a recall button when you mentioned black out shades during WWII. What a total flashback. Call it a snapback. I can remember the panic when someone forgot to pull the shade down before turning on a lamp in a room at night. I don't recall that a Japanese aircraft ever got east of Hamilton Field though. I thought it an interesting paradox that the steam locomotives had funnels over their headlignts yet you could sure see the light escape out the side air damper doors on the firepan at night. Espeially when the locomotive was starting out with a load. This was NWP in Sausalito near Marin Ship and through San Rafael.
