There should be an immediate reappraisal of SMART. The present cost estimates seem to outweigh the immediate and short-term future benefits and the agency cannot seem to be able to make a decision and stick with it on anything ranging from equipment to incremental rollout of the system. Funding will be difficult going forward too. There is no question that the service will be needed eventually but now is probably not the time to start building something when the agency involved in doing so does not seem to have all of their ducks in a row. I also wonder how many of the SMART board members have any railroad or transit experience. I understand that some of the staff members do have transit experience which is a plus.
