Didn't the French TGV already do a 500kmh test run a couple of years or so ago - followed not very long after by the German maglev blowing itself to pieces trying to equal it. If my memory is correct, then these Chinese tests are not world records at all. Not even a second best.

I guess all the Chinese would have to do, is put out a press release saying 481kmh is a world record, and that makes it so.
