Most Espee road diesels bought new from 1968 to 1975 had the L - Shaped engineers windshield, both EMD & GE. Few other RR's ordered this expensive option,( Illinois Central was one ), though EMD used it on most of its' demonstrators in the same time period. These windshields went away with new FRA rules requiring bullet - proof glass in locomotives & cabooses.
I am surprised to see the Espee Bicentennial paint job still holding up so well some 3 years later. I guess they still took pride in the Commute service, even though they lost money on it.
