While camping out on Stevens Pass last summer, I noticed BNSF has changed the type of concrete tie they use, from the slide - in clip w/ plastic shim, to a screw - in clip style. The local section crew supervisor in Skykomish said the plastic shim would deform easily, causing the rail to go out - of - gauge on the high side of curves. I don't know that EwePee has noticed this or followed suit; also don't know if this is a huge change to the way concrete ties are manufactured.
Maybe QC is better on the Tucson ties, or production times are faster due to the dry desert air ???
