If the BN had left the SP&S track on the bridge over I-90 and tied it into the westbound main coming off of the Latah Creek bridge to form a wye Amtrak could have saved bundles of money during the earlier years of the operation of 27 and 28. A turn on the wye of 28's engine for 27 would have paid far less overtime than the nightly trip to the Parkwater wye via the roundhouse lead or to the balloon track via the Hell Hole.
