Amtrak Auto Train Question

A buddy of mine mentioned that he had heard that Amtrak's Auto Train no longer runs as a single train, that one section has the passengers and a second section hauls the auto racks without the passenger cars. He recalls reading something that the auto racks were a complicating factor in a derailment and Amtrak was no longer allowed to run the racks in the same consist as the passenger cars---but he wasn't completly certain, anyone know if this is true? Thanks in advance to those who know and post!!
