If Amtrak # 7 & 8 are running this far West, they are being turned @ Everett,WA due to mudslides in Mukilteo. The snowslides blocking U.S.Hwy. 2 are located along the side of Cowboy Peak near the summit; the railroad is under the mountain in Cascade Tunnel at this point. One of the reasons the Great Northern dug the new tunnel was the constant maintenance of snowsheds , & the threat of snow slides & avalanches, on the old line. The rock & mud slide blocking Hwy 2 in Tumwater Cyn is not affecting the railroad, as Great Northern moved their tracks in this area over one canyon to Chumstick Cyn in the 1920's. Hwy 2 uses the old R of W.
