Before all the fussin' and fuedn' started BNSF, UP, and TCRY were all initially opposed to the Center Parkway project not necessarily because of where it was located but the way it was presented, the cities wanted the tracks removed and didn't want to pay the cost to move them. The City of Kennewick and Richland initially tried to condemn UP's property which kinda drew the line on where UP stood. TCRY and UP were opposed to the deal because it put a road through their interchange and no one wanted to pay what the railroad's said it would cost which doesn't go well with any railroad's business model, something two cities who are trying to develop "local" business do not understand. BNSF was initially opposed to the deal because it was also their interchange with TCRY who back in the day interchanged 20 plus loads daily with BNSF. The three railroads and the two cities were in the process of designing a new interchange before the fight broke out, two locations were selected with the more plausable one being under US 395 in Kennewick on the UP. Yes, the City of Richland publicly came out and stated they blackmailed both UP, BNSF, and TCRY. Pleasure doing business with such a good neighbor. Another grain elevator is in the works with a rail loop which will be financed with public money from the City of Richland (the Richland School District is currently talking about laying off teachers) and the stipulation for that to be built was Centerparkway would be resolved. There is more than what is being said publicly both good and bad for all three railroads. The soap opera continues...
