TriMet is installing rail expansion joints this weekend between the Beaverton Transit Center, and the Sunset Transit Center. TriMet will be operating as many as 18 shuttle busses to bridge the gap in Westside service. For the railfan this means that seldom used crossovers at the two transit centers will get a workout this weekend. Trains turning back to the west from Beaverton TC will use the single crossover just west of Lombard street to get back on the north rail, and head for Hillsboro. Eastbound Blue Line trains at Sunset Transit Center are leaving from the north track, and taking the double crossover to get back onto the south eastbound track and head towards Gresham. Red Line Airport trains are boarding on the south track, so are crossing over at arrival from the airport. This is a busy spring weekend for downtown Portland, as there is the Doggy Dash going on down at Waterfont Park, plus the usual fundraising walk/runs. The busses will get a workout, the one I rode this a.m. was packed.
