Thanks, NdeM... Yes, every shot in this group was from a publically accessible spot. The first one requires a telephoto however.
1) - BNSF Stacks at Tesaro - This was taken from the Anaheim Street bridge over the Dominguez Overpass in Wilmington. It's a morning shot, but likely not to work in June/July (howver the other way may work). You have to park at Henry Ford and Anaheim and then hike up. It's an industrial area, and you can get the occasional weirdo bothering you up there, but generally, it's fairly safe. I have shot from there a couple times and never been bothered by the Harbor Patrol, but I think that's been luck.

2) The two PHL units shoving were taken from almost the exact same spot (believe it or not). With a regular lens, you can get that view of the channel.
3) The third one was shot at the Bandini grade crossing in Commerce. Unless the Citcom switcher is working and you see it heading for there, however, I don't know that I would hang out there (not for safety reasons, but rather there's no much action on that spur). I would hang at the Metrolink Platform on the BNSF San Bernardino Sub and then run over to the spur when you see the switcher getting ready to go over it (like it's suddenly pulling baretables out of Citcom). This is an afternoon shot.
