When the shays were still running(at home).

On a pleasant fall morning in 1960 West Side Lumber Company shay 10 was pausing for a brake check before descending the almost 5% grade to the mill at Tuolumne. Loaded trains were stopped at a location just outside of town referred to as "The Flume" (because of a water flume that crossed above the track at this location). Engineer Short Maddox has taken the opportunity to "oil around" during the stop. Shay 10 in operation can still be appreciated not too many miles from where she was running when this photo was taken. The Yosemite Mountain & Sugar Pine runs her regularly at Fish Camp, just outside the Southern entrance to Yosemite National Park.
