By February 1973, the only "F" units to be found on SP rails were the FP7's that had been "conveyed" (their term, not mine) to Amtrak. Still wearing their SP paint, four of them had run overnight from LA to the Bay Area on their way to Reno with a Pacific Rail Society Special. South of San Jose, the train hit a pick up killing the driver.
Now running late, an additional FP7 was added at Oakland further delaying the train. I don't know if it was planned or not but at Roseville, an SD45 was added to the lash up. By the time the train got to Yuba Gap, the light was fading but I tried one more shot.
This is what I got.
