There is a small museum downtown that houses a replica of the Best Friend of Charleston. That was the first locomotive of the first predecessor of what is now Norfolk Southern. That particular replica was originally built by Southern Railway for various ceremonial functions.

I don't have details handy, but if you google "Best Friend of Charleston" you should be able to find information about the location.

The original Best Friend blew up when a fireman got annoyed with the pressure valve and tied it down. The parts were then used on other locomotives.
