2011 Dunsmuir Railroad Days June 10-12 This weekend

Late news!! TIOGA PASS has been invited aboard a special train to operate from Oakland to Dunsmuir, California, in connection with Dunsmuir's annual celebration of Railroad Days. Dunsmuir is a small railroad town located in the Sierra Nevada mountains North of Redding, at an elevation of about 3,000 feet. It is truly a beautiful setting with the river nearby and thick forests all around.
On Thursday, we will leave LA on the rear of Amtraks Coast Starlight. At Oakland, our car will be cut off the Starlight, and added to the special train (Perhaps the Shasta Daylight??) which will depart Oakland Friday morning for a daylight ride to Sacramento, Chico, Redding, and up the Sacramento River Canyon to Dunsmuir. We should arrive Dunsmuir about 6:00pm. 5 of TIOGA PASS passengers will sleep aboard the car, while our other passengers will stay in local motels in Dunsmuir or Mount Shasta.
Saturday you can join in the fun at Railroad Days celebration in Dunsmuir, but then, Saturday afternoon, you can boarde your private car for a three hour dinner train trip to Black Butte, where the train will be turned on the wye track. During the trip, dinner will be served aboard TIOGA PASS for our passengers. Saturday night will be the same as Friday night, spending the night at Dunsmuir.
Sunday morning, we are treated to another rare daylight ride thru the Sacramento River Canyon as we return to Oakland.
Monday will be a layover day in Oakland. Passengers continuing on to Los Angeles will be welcome to sleep aboard the car Sunday and Monday nights in Oakland.
Tuesday morning, TIOGA PASS will be added to the rear of the Coast Starlight at Oakland, for the daytime journey down the Coast to Los Angeles.
Fares for this 5 full day rail odyssey:
Los Angeles to Dunsmuir and return, sleeping in a private room aboard the car $900.00 per person. Includes all meals except dinner at Dunsmuir Friday, and Lunch Saturday, and no meals on Monday at Oakland.
Los Angeles to Dunsmuir, round trip, but with no room aboard the car at Oakland and Dunsmuir, (make your own arrangements at Oakland and Dunsmuir) $700.00 per person. Meal arrangements as above.
Oakland (Emeryville) to Dunsmuir, round trip, with meals en route,
(your own arrangements at Dunsmuir for room) $400.00 per person
Los Angeles to Oakland (on Fri. 6/9) or Oakland to Los Angeles on Tuesday
6/14, with full meal service, $225.00 per person.
As always, all beverages aboard TIOGA PASS are included in your fare, and the open platform will be yours to enjoy all day long if you wish!!
